Course overview
From work, play, education, games, birth, death, love and punishment - this course will explore the evidence for the daily life of individuals and the elite in ancient Egypt. We will look at the map of the region and follow the Nile down. We will explore Egyptian chronology, urban life, temples and pictures depicting the religious life of the people.
Course description
What was life like in ancient Egypt? What were the educational opportunities for children? What can we understand about different jobs? Why is magic part of childbirth? In a subject often focused on preparations for death, this study day will explore aspects of life from the risky process of childbirth through childhood, games, education, work and housing. Based on evidence from across Pharaonic Egypt we will draw upon texts, artefacts and tomb reliefs to provide a broad range of sources for both elite, and where possible, non-elite individuals.
Come and explore ancient Egyptian civilisation through archaeological discoveries which shed light on how ancient Egyptians lived.
