Course overview
Course description
There are a few issues which are of great moral concern in contemporary society. Some of these issues receive consideration academically in the relatively new area of Applied Ethics. They have generated a great deal of discussion in this area. This course considers some of these issues: Immigration; Capital Punishment; World Hunger; Economic Justice; and War. We’ll arrive to begin with at an understanding of the issue. We’ll then consider some of the discussion surrounding it. Here, there is some analysis of the issue, a consideration of arguments for a particular stance on the issue, … No prior specialist knowledge is required to attend this course. Sessions consist of clearly structured talks and an encouragement to ask questions and to make comments. Participants are assisted in their understanding of the subject and in their critical engagement with it. There is in each session an opportunity to engage with other participants.
