Course description
ÃÛÌÒÊÓƵ us for an exciting new course tailored for beginner bag makers! If you have basic sewing machine experience, this is the perfect opportunity to refresh your skills and learn new tips. You'll have the choice of various bag patterns focusing on specific bag-making techniques, or you can create your own patterns using the skills you'll acquire. This course will delve into techniques like installing zippers, adding pockets, and crafting different bag bases and handles. We'll create 2-3 bags throughout the course with sustainability in mind. Skills covered and enhanced will include seams and hems, buttonholes, inserting zips, sewing and reinforcing corners, as well as sewing curves and darts. Specific bag-making skills will cover inserting a range of closures, attaching bag handles, and exploring different ways to shape and construct bag bases. We'll discuss how designers can embrace sustainability and discover where to source materials ethically. Through lively class discussions and an image board on Canvas, we'll share inspiration and ideas, ultimately designing and making our own bag shapes based on a specific creative brief. We'll meet online weekly for 11 weeks, and the tutor will demonstrate each step of the bag-making process. These sessions will be recorded for you to revisit between classes. You'll also receive handouts and plenty of inspiration through class discussions and links to websites and Pinterest. Please note that a working camera that is switched on is a requirement for this course.
