Course overview

A seasonal introduction to book-folding, making various Christmas decorations, from a tree (can also be an angel depending on decoration) to a candle (add battery nightlight) to baubles that hang on the full-size tree. This course is intended for beginners, and uses cheap materials (old paperback book) and no special tools.

Course description

If you’ve ever seen the notorious “hedgehogs” folded by Brownies, this is an extension of that. I expect you’ve seen the cone “trees” in shop windows for a cheap but effective display, with added tinsel and a star on top, and yes, they really are so simple to make that the under-tens can do it. I’ll guide you through, with PDF instruction sheets you can download before the start of the course, pictures of what the end result should look like, and a demonstration as we go. If you can use your camera to show us what you’re doing, I can even advise you on what you may be doing wrong (YouTube won’t do that!) You will need to provide an old paperback or two, and some glue. You might want to add cardboard for bases (cereal boxes are fine), some scissors, and some decorations – ribbons, tinsel, baubles… again, I’ll have a PDF of ideas available in advance. In this scale, the repetitive folding is therapeutic rather than boring, so come along and relax!
