Dive deeper into counselling and sharpen your set of skills for social work. Learn techniques to help those in need of support. Counselling courses teach you fundamental skills employers look for. Understand how to help others in a safe and positive way. The Level 2 Certificate in Counselling Skills introduces you to using counselling skills in everyday life: for work or within a personal capacity. Develop key skills employers look for in this level 2 counselling course. Team working and communication are key skills for CVs in support work.

Course description

Learn about different counselling techniques including effective communication skills. Explore counselling skills theories and understand how you can apply them to enrich your practice. Gain awareness of the importance of diversity and ethics in the use of counselling skills. Appreciate how counselling skills can support the personal development of others.

This course takes around 160 hours to complete. After, you can progress to a Level 3 Award in Counselling Skills and Theory, or a Level 3 Diploma in Counselling Skills.

You can also progress to a job role which uses counselling skills, such as a support worker or guidance officer. If you’re unsure which progression route is right for you, your WEA tutor will be happy to advise and discuss your options with you.

To take this course you’ll need to have access to the internet. Communicate with your tutor and access learning materials through Canvas, the WEA’s digital learning portal.
