Course description
Map reading is a practical skill for walkers to be used in the countryside during real walks. However, the materials for this course were devised during our COVID lockdown periods and have proved so effective that we continue to offer the course on-line. It addresses all the key thinking skills which walkers need in the field but without the wind and the rain! We will start with generic way-finding techniques on a shared map but will progress to individual work where you can devise hikes or wanders in areas where you normally walk. For the first session you will need a sheet of A4 paper and a pencil. Later we will addsome household items for our exercises and then you will need to have access to a recent edition of the Ordnance Survey Explorer map for an area where you often walk.
