Course description

What we’ll cover

  • Understand how to use maps, diagrams, and photos to get information.

  • Identify and use common sources of information.

  • Get information from different texts, including emails, letters, and leaflets.

  • Read words with common spelling patterns.

  • Use knowledge of phonics and context to help you read words.

This is a preparation course for the ESOL entry 2 reading qualification. It is not an accredited course.

You need previous reading skills to take this course, that’s why you’ll need to do a skills check to enrol. Don’t worry, this isn’t an exam. It’s for us to make sure you get on the right course for your level.

When you complete this introductory course, you will be ready to take the ESOL entry 2 reading course.

There are “get ready” courses between each module to prepare you for the next course.

What to expect

This get ready for ESOL course takes around 40 hours to complete. It gives you more opportunities to learn the reading skills required for an entry 2 reading qualification.

Please note that you’ll need an internet connection to study this ESOL course. This is so you can access our digital learning platform, Canvas.
