Malcolm Grady
WEA English Regional Representative, Education Committee Chair
Malcolm has spent his professional career in the world of education. He qualified as a teacher after graduating from York University and taught history and politics for a number of years before moving into educational administration. In this role he worked in school governance, further education, school workforce development and initial teacher training. He qualified as an Ofsted inspector and used his experience to promote the wider educational aspects of inspection beyond the teaching and learning in the classroom.
A fervent believer in the ongoing benefits of adult education, he gained a Master’s degree in Education from Durham University and later a Doctorate in Education from Newcastle University. He applied his commitment to adult education by being a tutor for the WEA for almost 30 years as well as working as a part-time lecturer at Durham, Newcastle and Sunderland Universities in the field of adult and continuing education in history and current affairs.
He recently retired from a 30-year stint as a Presiding Justice in the magistrates court.
Malcolm is currently involved with several charitable organisations as a Trustee, a governor of a FE college and a member of the Public Lectures Committee of the University of Newcastle.
