1. Little and often
Carve out a time and space in your day to write in your journal regularly. Turn it into a habit, and perhaps create some ritual around it. Turn off your phone, make a cup of tea and light a candle. Now write.
2. Bring your questions
If you don’t know what to write about, try asking yourself questions. What went well today? What 3 words would sum up my day? What am I worrying about that I’d like to get out of my head so I can sleep?
3. Use colour
You don’t need to be an artist to add beauty and creativity to your journal. Just bring some colour into it! Use bright colour pens, highlight keywords or phrases, doodle with coloured pencils. Anything goes!
4. There are no mistakes
This is for you! There is no wrong way to journal. Find the way that works for you, but allow yourself the full freedom to make it messy, non-linear, bold!
5. End with gratitude
Whatever kind of day you’ve had, consider finishing your journal entry with 1 thing you’re grateful for. It could be something very simple like having a roof over your head. Or a cat on your lap or a message from a friend who just wanted to check-in. It doesn’t have to be huge or dramatic (although of course it can be). Just an acknowledgement of something that went right.
