Course description

There will be an opportunity to think about any barriers we have and also to consider how we can demonstrate appropriate skills gained outside a management role. It is irrelevant in most cases where you have gained your skills and often it is more impressive to a hirer if you have gained these in a volunteer role.

What skills do you need as a manager? How are these different from those that you are demonstrating from within a team role? This course will identify the types of skills and behaviours needed for effective management and identify how these are different from those needed in the wider team. We will identify our own skill level and where there are gaps in our skills. What are the opportunities to address these gaps and how can these be accessed? We will investigate a number of practical problems that a manager might face and discuss how we would deal with these if we were in their shoes. Bringing together both theory and practice this course will help you to plan your path towards a successful application start you on your journey to that management role.
