Develop confidence to write complex texts in English. This ESOL course teaches you how to write more clearly and use grammar correctly. Learn how to improve your writing skills in English and get the most out of living in the UK. This ESOL level 1 writing course builds on skills you learnt at entry 3. Understand how to write well-structured texts and use sophisticated vocabulary. This is an English course for adults. It is aimed at speakers of other languages. ESOL courses are divided into three areas: reading, writing, and speaking & listening. If you’re helping others access ESOL classes in the UK, you’ve come to the right place.

Course description

What we’ll cover

  • Learn the meaning and use of common phrasal verbs in English, and understand where to place the object

  • Recognise how to make appropriate word choices using prefixes and suffixes

  • Learn to write different types of texts using appropriate layout and structure (bullet points, heading, and paragraphs.)

  • Identify and correct any spelling, grammar, or punctuation mistakes in a text

  • Learn rules and tricks for how to improve your spelling in English

This ESOL level 1 course focuses on how to improve writing skills in English. It is for adults.

You need prior writing skills to take this course, that’s why you’ll do a skills check to enrol. Don’t worry, this isn’t an exam. It’s for us to make sure you get on the right course for you.

When you complete this module, you can continue with other ESOL skills for life level 1 courses. Once you finish the reading, writing, and speaking & listening courses, you can progress to level 2 ESOL courses.

There are also “Get Ready” courses between each module to prepare you for the next course.

What to expect

This ESOL level 1 writing course takes around 110 hours to complete.

Please note that you’ll need an internet connection to study this English course. This is so you can access our digital learning platform, Canvas.
