Course description

The Sketchbook is a useful tool for the artist to offload their many artistic ideas and influences and try out new techniques and materials. During this inspirational course, you will be encouraged to explore your creative interests by gathering new experiments in your sketchbooks and art practices. During this course, you will focus on your use of colour. You will make a colour wheel and learn about colour theory and use language of colour.

Primary, secondary and complimentary colours will be mixed with black and white to give tints, tones and shades of different hues to make swatches. You will look at the work of different artists to consider temperature in artwork, how warm and cool colours can evoke moods and feelings and how warm and cool colours can create depth, instead of using perspective. As the term progresses you will use the language of art to evaluate your artwork, so that you are more fully able to talk about your artistic inspirations and ideas. You will also visit RAMM museum and Exeter Phoenix Galleries to view contemporary and classical art to broaden your creative outlook.
